LDSBot is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) agent, which means that it is simply a computer program that appears to be intelligent. It does not truly understand anything, but it is incredibly good at seeming as though it does.
AI can be used for learning, research, productivity and entertainment. We developed LDSBot to be a source of information about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to be a useful tool for people within this context.
LDSBot is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and is a project of the B. H. Roberts Foundation.
What LDSBot is pretty good at
- General gospel conversation
- Understanding Latter-day Saint doctrine and scripture
- Outlining and writing talks and lessons
- Biblical studies (Hebrew and Greek)
- And so much more!
What LDSBot struggles with
- Accurate quotations from Church leaders
- Conversation relating to current events
- Information about specific people and events if they are relatively unknown
- Sharing accurate URLs
LDSBot is under continuous development, and will improve over time. LDSBot is built with the OpenAI API and utilizes the ChatGPT-4 model.
Can I train LDSBot to remember certain things? Can I teach it?
No, not really. It can learn within the context of your current conversation, but LDSBot will forget everything as soon as you reload the page.
Is LDSBot biased? Can I trust what it tells me?
LDSBot is programmed to have a faith-positive disposition towards the Church, but it is also programmed to be candid and factual in its responses. Because of the nature of how AI works, it's important to know that LDSBot does occasionally make mistakes, and you should not rely on it as an authoritative source of information.
What if LDSBot gave me a wrong answer? Can I report that to someone?
We review the logs of conversations to help us improve the bot to make it smarter, but yes, if you'd like you can share your experience with us, you can email us at info@bhroberts.org.
This is amazing! How does any of this work?
Over the last few years various research groups have made major breakthroughs in what are called Large Language Models (LLMs) which are a type of machine learning system. These breakthroughs are related to how to train LLMs using extremely large datasets of information - billions of pages of text from many different sources, including books and web pages. Other breakthroughs are related to how to process interactions with LLMs using very deep and computationally expensive methods. LDSBot is one of many AI systems that are based on this technology.
Can LDSBot help me with my homework? Can it plan a vacation for me?
No. LDSBot is not a general chatbot. If you'd like to talk to a general chatbot, you can visit ChatGPT.
